The story of Gladi Tiles

Gladi launched online on February 21, 2024, as the most affordable alternative to existing magnetic toy brands. To achieve this, we visited our supplier in China—who also supplies the biggest brands on the market—to see how everything was produced and how we could improve.

Magnetic building toys are the perfect way for children ages 3 and up to playfully develop spatial awareness, motor skills, and problem-solving skills. With endless fun. But how is it that Gladi Tiles magnetic toys are over 50% cheaper than other brands, even though they come from the same factory?

What exactly is magnetic toys?

Magnetic toys like Gladi Tiles consist of plastic tile building sets with safe magnets on the edges. Children use them to build, explore, and learn endlessly. They stimulate their imaginative worlds, and through building and experimenting, children playfully develop their problem-solving skills. As magnetic building toys, Gladi Tiles offer endless possibilities. This type of toy is considered STEM toys and is popular with children aged 3 to 12.

The raw materials: safe & sustainable plastic

We use high-quality ABS plastic —the same material used in LEGO®. It's durable, BPA-free, and impact-resistant. Besides using this safe plastic, anything that breaks or can't be used is recycled. This way, we reduce waste, lower raw material costs, and minimize pollution. As you can see in the photo, each tile starts as a pellet of recycled ABS plastic: finely ground residual material that is transformed into new toys.

The complete production process

  • Raw material

    The ABS plastic granules are sucked into the machine, heated and then injected into a metal mold.

  • Production

    After about 25 seconds, the plastic granules are transformed into tiles – 3 at a time.

  • Magnets in it

    Once the blue bins are full, the magnets are placed largely by hand. Then, the tiles are firmly pressed together by machine.

  • Packing

    After quality control, each set is hand-packed in our cleverly designed Gladi boxes, minimizing wasted space to help protect the environment!

  • Transport

    After packing, the sets are put into larger boxes and shipped by boat to our warehouse in Vianen (UT), where we carry out a quality check again before sale.
